CHAPTER FIFTEEN
AFTER SHE RECOVERED from burying Daisy and the shock that her biological mother wasnât the one who loved and cared for them, Patricia wondered when life would return to normal. Clemency wasnât surprised and said sheâd always suspected all wasnât as it seemed where their parents were concerned. She hoped the sisters would become close after Jasmine discovered the truth and advised Patricia that it would be in her best interests to take time out to grieve Daisyâs passing and come to terms with the fact she was her real mother.
âHave you spoken to Jasmine and sent her a copy of your auntâs letter?â she asked, busy making lunch in Patriciaâs kitchen.
âNot yet. Iâll call her soon. Jasmine and Patrik have enough problems at the moment and my sister will be too upset to take on board Daisyâs revelations.â Patricia ached to spend time with her sister. She hoped Jasmine would book a flight and visit her, as soon as matters improved between her and Patrik. Sheâd recently moved back in with him and was adjusting to them spending more time as well as working at PartyPerfect. âBut you must tell her Daisyâs explanation of what her father said or sheâll continue to believe sheâs not worthy of being loved,â Clemency exclaimed.
âKnowing how upset sheâll be when she finds out our mother isnât the one who gave birth to us, it seems kinder to discuss everything with her when I see her. Sheâll accept it all eventually. Jasmine assured me she needs to focus on her marriage and that she wants to visit me in the foreseeable future.â Patricia had organised Daisyâs funeral and buried her next to her husbandâs grave in Brighton, knowing Jasmine wouldnât want to be present. Jasmine detested visiting their parentsâ graves and preferred to mourn in private.
Serving the piping hot food, Clemency said, âIs it really as easy as that to fix a relationship? It takes time and patience, not forgetting effort, to trust someone whoâs been unfaithful. Is Patrik convinced she means it?â
âIâve no idea but I know he loves her, he told me as much when we saw each other and Iâm fairly certain Jasmine loves him too much to risk losing him.â She paused to taste the dish that Jacques used to love. âThis is divine, Clemency! Youâve done a great job. Goulash is my favourite recipe, and was passed on to me from Magg...Mum.â
âGood, I wanted to make us something special to eat, instead of the usual snacks and sandwiches between clients. Let me pour you another glass of wine.â Theyâd opened a new bottle of red wine while cooking and talking.
âYes, please!â
As they sat quietly eating and drinking, the landline rang. Excusing herself, Patricia answered and her face lit up. âGreat!â she said. âYou must give me the details so I can pick you up at the airport.â She put down the receiver and smiled. âJasmineâs coming over next week for a few days, I canât begin to describe how pleased I am.
